Golden suits...

This week, MAP students from Banbury and Oxford took part in a special performance project with Polish Artist Pawel Althamer. Starting from Modern Art Oxford, we explored Oxford city centre dressed in gold spacesuits...

Thomas says "While Pawel seemed to like the idea of seeing things in a different light, I personaly found the experience to be all about being the centre of attention. So many people on the street approached us and asked what we were doing, it really shows how withdrawn we normaly are as a culture."

More info about the exhibition here.

Imran Khan cd cover by Haleema Afsar.

This is a singing artist. His name is Imran Khan. He does bhangra music. His latest song is 'Amplifier' . I looked for his lyrics and pictures on the internet. Then I took a picture outside of a car then I pasted the picture on a blank document. I edited the pictures and filtered them. Then I added my text.

Album cover by Chelsea Lewis

I started by looking at his pictures, new video and lyrics. I then copied them to word and printed them. Secondly I went out side and took some pictures of trees, railings and the blue sky. I then put them on the computer from the camera, and up loaded them to photoshop. I started doing my design and combined all three pictures together and changed the colours.

animation chair

Today at MAP I started a new animation project. I decided to experiment with stop motion animation; to make a chair spin around. Instead of using the computer to take photos, I decided to take pics of the chair in different positions, print them off, and then photocopy them; to give the photos a more animated effect... I then cut out the photocopies and took pictures of them, in order, on the computer. I was really impressed with the finished product and want to try making a music video using similar filming techniques... :D

The main inspirations for this mask were native american totem poles, and the paintings of pablo picasso. Picasso's deformed style of art is represented primerily in the the asymetrical nature of the eyes, and I used several totem poles as colour guides. If I could change one thing about the mask, then I would strengthen the native american connections by giving it a hocked nose, which was used to symbolise eagle ancestry.
