PIMP MY BIKE

One of my first projects at map has been pimp my bike.
First we painted it blue and then to jazz it up we stuck loads of jewels and beads on to the bike.
I have been at map for two weeks, and i really enjoy it.

What are you working on?

Emma > This is based on a picture I took in Banbury where I live.

Sammie > I cut a number of pictures of shoes out of a magazine. Then I arranged them and stuck them to a piece of paper. Last, I made a pattern with it on the computer. I found it hard, as it was the first time I had done it.

LO'K > I finished this montage on 28th October. It took me 3 days to paint and 2 days to draw.

Jamie > This is a canvas full of band insignias, including Iron Maiden, Pink Floyd (wall logo) and Queen!

Kim > Hi, this is my hieroglyphics project. I plan to do my name and the names of family and friends.

nearly forgot.....

All the MAP students at Oxford are writing a book about their lives. it is going to be a collection of short stories about their experiences so far. They are also thinking about having an open day to show off their unit at the end of the summer...more on this later.

MAP Oxford

Busy, busy!! It's all going on....today we sent of a load of artwork for an exhibition that is part of The Northwall Arts Festival. Later on leanne and Katie recorded a Duffy track which is worthy of winning next years 'Britains Got talent!' Cassie has been editing her film all day and Aaron has been making beats with Patrick. Not bad for his first day! But best of all had to be lunch! we decided on a cook up today and all shared a huge homemade pasta and cheese chefed up by leanne. This afternoon we planned menus for next week so that we could all have lunch together and divided up the tasks between the group. This gave us all enough energy to plan work for a new exhibition in August...to which you are all invited! bye for now!

Stef and David

Stef

I have been working on my canvas. It is a bow and a rose. I have used watercolours to colour in the rose. I am using glass beards too, to outline the rose. I hope it turns out good...

David

I am drawing different characters from different computer games and am going to make a collage out of all of them when I am finished. I got the idea through a book I saw at home, I am using different types of pens pencils and chalks to get different looks to them.

'Up Close + Personal' @ The Mill

Two young people at MAP Banbury - both DJs - have been working hard to organise an under-18s club night at The Mill. The hard work paid off and more than 60 young people attended the event. The DJs and crowd were great and not even a brief power failure killed the atmosphere. Thanks to all staff - The Mill, MAP and Youth Service - and young people who supported the event.

kitsch in The Kitchen

Having been evicted from our usual space (by the builders), MAP are now working in the kitchen. We're not allowed to do any messy work!!!! So instead we've been making memory mirrors from old jewellery and objects from our homes. Enjoy.
Joel

Here is some writing about it by Bea

Efficient memory storage; in style

Our fabulous teacher Emma (and our other awesome teacher Joel, her accomplice who helped us complete this project,) had an interesting idea of collecting the bits and pieces that all of us hoarders of sentimental crap secretly own, and taking them and attaching them to a mirror. We went out raided an old junk store, each of us buying cheap mirrors.

When we got back to our base we began planning and mapping out our individual crazy designs for our unique “memory mirrors.” Everyone really enjoyed this task and there was definatly a unanimous feeling of relief; this stemmed from having gotten ridden of all our old crap, and turning into something that was special, because these mirrors are special, special to each of us because of the memories and thought that have gone into producing them.
So, when I went home I brought back the following –

Seashells,
An old house key,
A sterling Irish coin,
A cinema ticket,
a broach,
a button,
a baggy,
Precious stones,
a bracelet,
A strip of sequins,
A pot of “fairy dust,”
And so on.

The seashells are from a trip to Bournemouth where I went on a day trip with some friends, I‘m someone who doesn’t have a great memory and so keeping objects really help me to remember where I’ve been and what I’ve done as it triggers the section in my mind which stores all the memories.

I’ll admit my old house key is not on my mirror because I have moved house, but unfortunately it’s rather a lot less exciting… (We got a new door!) I’ve stuck it onto my mirror more because it was my first key to my home, and my when my sister got it cut for me she got it painted in a funky design and so it looks pretty.

To the younger generation of ravers - there is a party at The Mill Arts Centre/Millers Bar on the 11th of April (this friday), 8pm, £3 on the door. Under 18s. Spread the word to strangers, family members... absolutely everyone!!!

First Steps to First Words....

Today MAP ran a creative workshop with the First Steps to First Words domestic violence group. The group is for young people and is facilitated by Jane Limerick. One of the young people had a poem that we thought was that good we've published it here today.

My Prison

I'm sat here now
all alone
nothing on the telly
or on the phone

My life is a prison
no locks no bars
a dream of escaping
in trains or in cars

I look for a hand to hold
or even a call
a sign of humanity
anything at all.

I reach out for comfort
my soul it is crying
my love is expanding
My heart dying.

Keep Strong
By Marc Plowman.

Star Skipper

For my creative writing piece I wrote about my style of writing and gave examples in the form of a short poem and story plan.

This is my poem:

“See Rory, I can flutter better than you thought. I’m a star skipper now, look out of your window and above"

“Oh, I can see sapphire velvet flowing gracefully, circling as she danced star to star. Sewing a pattern, a message into the sky’s fabric”

“I’m happy - you should be too”

“You will find joy many moons afar”

“Cherish all and everything”

A feather falls lonely into my hand Immaculate, Untouched, New.

The poem came from the story idea which is about a young boy who tragically loses his best friend and how he copes afterwards, finding out more about himself and others in the process.

I have put a lot of thought into it and the whole progression.
Yeah - it’s more awesome than Barbie cheating on Ken with Cindy and saying that in fact Cindy is a man in full drag…

MAP Glow

This is a cover of the Alien Ant Farm song Glow.
We recorded the whole thing using only Garage Band and our ibook's built in microphone.
The quality isn't great but its not bad considering the limited equipment we had.
Joel

Mirror Art

"The other day I started cutting out pictures and words from magazines for my mirror picture that I had been planning. I carefully selected my pictures and words and stuck them onto a piece of paper. I made sure I placed them all unevenly so that they would look good mirrored, I even used pictures of myself in the piece - you know, to add some sexiness to it all!

Then once I was happy with everything I had stuck down, I scanned it into the computer and used Photoshop to make more copies of it and to add to the side and the bottom. I was going for a kind of three-way mirror effect kinda thing.

Then I started to add detail to the background, messing around with the Gradient Tool to add certain effects to the background. Guess I kinda went a bit mad but my aim was to make it look ‘WOW’

I’m mega proud of the finished piece I think it looks more awesome than a panda in a tuxedo eating a jam doughnut.

Yep - that awesome!!!"

A Cold and Wet Oxford

Cassie and Marianna are building a totem pole.

And these are the first pictures of SPIDER WORLD.

Tuesday, 4 March 2008

Oxford will be the switch we turn on.

Lucy and Bea are working on a 3D spider environment (as you do).

And these are album covers designed by Cassi and Katy. All we need now is some music!
Luckily Cassi brought her guitar in and taught us how to play Glow by Alien Ant farm (so we all had a nice sing along).
Speaking of aliens. . . . .

. . . here's more of the animation, this time on an alien Planet.
